The Baby Laguna is hand woven from banana leaf strands around a bamboo frame. Each chair takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks to make, with most of the work involved being the weaving process. The Baby Laguna comes with its own cushion set, which is our own 'Natural White Cotton' fabric, and is machine washable, with zips to take the cover off the inner filling. The Baby Laguna measures approximately 1 metre across, 1 metre deep and sits about 40cm high - which means there is plenty of room to get comfortable for 1 - or nice and cuddly for 2. Each Baby Laguna will vary slightly in size however, due to the nature of it being hand made. |

Many people want to know if it is really banana leaf - The answer is Absolutely! The Banana Leaf is harvested from the Banana Tree upon its maturity, which is then rolled and dried in the sun for a period of 3 to 7 days. Once dried, the leaf is then plaited or twirled to create a sturdy rope in various thicknesses, then woven over the frame similar to the weave in a jumper.
Banana leaf furniture is probably the most eco-friendly furniture available, as the raw product is a 100% renewable resource, and the Banana Tree is not grown for the leaf - but for the food that it produces. Once woven, the weave is then stained and protected with shellac. Shellac itself is a totally natural form of 'plastic' - which is obtained from the secretion of the female Lac insect, harvested from the bark of the trees where it deposits to provide a sticky hold on the trunk. The natural coloration of Lac residue is greatly influenced by the sap consumed by the Lac insect and the season of the harvest. Shellac is a natural polymer and is chemically similar to synthetic polymers, which is why it is considered a natural plastic.
It is recommended that the Baby Laguna doesn't go out in the rain, but it is great for the sunroom, undercover balcony or family room, and will take the most severe pounding from kids.
