PRESS RELEASE:

villa & hut takes eco friendly retailing mainstream

Global homewares & Kafe brand Villa & Hut, already recognized as an industry leader in its use of recycled timbers to manufacture its certified furniture range, has taken the steps of developing the first 100% Carbon Neutral furniture range, and is well underway to be Australia’s first Carbon Neutral furniture retailer and café chain. |

Villa & Hut commissioned 'POS Treecycled' to undertake an independent audit to determine the CO2 emissions produced through the development of its brand new and exclusive 'Strippenteak' furniture range. This audit included electricity use, hard & recycled waste levels, transportation, and machinery fuels. 'Strippenteak' is a man-made timber plank, being reconstituted from commercial industry waste timber collected from industrial sites. By using JUST ONE TONNE of this product as a timber source, the impact saves enough energy that can:
- Heat the average home for 6 months
- Save 30,000 litres of water
- Save 1500 litres of oil
- Save 3 square metres of plantation forrest.
The outcome of the audit has certified that the final product is actually slightly beyond being carbon neutral, and we will become carbon positive over time (ie: removing more CO2 from the atmosphere than produced) as even more efficient processes are put into place.
Last month Villa & Hut was named by BRW as one of Australia's fastest growing companies, coming in at number 9 in the top 100, and only one of 3 retailers in the top 30, and Managing Director Mr Franz Madlener has been nominated as a finalist for the prestigious 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award. |
